Havíøov lies in North Moravian region, about 20 km south-east from Ostrava, which is district city. It has near 95 000 inhabitants and with adjoining areas it make more than 110 000. Havíøov is 2nd largest town in Ostrava region. City is near Polish border, that’s why here lives together Czech, Slovak and Polish nations. Of course, Czech population is in majority.
History
Havíøov is youngest town in Northern Moravia. It hasn’t got big history, because it is only 42 years old city - as an autonomous 11346olh87pql5y
city it was ceremonially proclaimed on December 4, 1955. During the short time of it’s existence (10 years), Havíøov with its about 85 000 inhabitants has became the seventh biggest city in the state. The aim of the foundation was to ensuring labour power for heavy industry, especially for the mines.
Recreation
To satisfy recreational needs of the population, for instance, very important are near dams Žermanice and Tìrlicko. It is also the more distant Moravian-Silesian Beskides that are intensively utilised for recreation. In the city is also a bathing pool, greenwood parks and many parks in the centre of the city. Havíøov is sometimes called "green city".
